No one quite slammed the mat as patriotically as “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan.
A red-blooded American, the tough but lovable guy bee lined it into the ring with a 2×4 and a red, white and blue flag gripped tightly in his hand. Often going up against foreign foes, Duggan could get the crowd chanting of “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” at the drop of a hat, or elbow. For more than two decades, “Hacksaw” rocked the ring and is one of the most recognizable Superstars in the world.
An exceptional athlete, “Hacksaw” was initially drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, but his football career was cut short due to knee injuries. Duggan turned his massive frame to sports-entertainment. Starting out in the late ’70s, he competed across America under the name “Big” Jim Duggan.
Then, the New York native joined Mid-South Wrestling in 1982 and began to develop the personality traits that we fans love him for today.
“Hacksaw” is a bona fide legend in the ring and truly deserving of his spot in WWE’s Hall of Fame class of 2011. Come see him at Capital City Comic Con 2020 and hear first hand about how he began carrying a 2×4 to the ring.
